ABOUT FREDDIE KARTOZ
Freddie Kartoz is a Rochester NY based mezzo-soprano on the cusp of graduating with a B.M. in Voice, Opera, and Vocal Coaching. A multi-disciplinarian, they have played three roles in the Eastman Opera Theatre, taken music education and alexander technique courses, all while achieving a dual B.A in Psychology at the University of Rochester.
Additionally, they co-founded and advised several clubs in their time at Eastman, including a revived Eastman School of Music Queer Alliance, on which they currently are finishing their term as president. Community is their M.O, and they believe that creating safe affinity spaces is crucial.
For Freddie Kartoz, competent vocal pedagogy is the synthesis of multitudes: cultural sustainment, musicological and stylistic knowledge, vocal literacy, interpersonal and mental health awareness, compassion, curiosity, and play.
Through their teaching, Freddie Kartoz hopes to mentor young singers, especially those who are transgender and nonbinary, and continue their advocacy work.
